CREATING LEADS AND NETWORKING - 9:30AM-11:45 AM
Networking is the single most effective technique for developing job leads. Even if you realize the importance of networking, it can seem difficult to do at all and impossible to do well. We will take you through a step-by-step process of how to network effectively! We will also address alternative ways of finding a job, including online job boards, working with recruiters, and other approaches.
We’ll show you how to create leads, conduct research using online social media tools such as LinkedIn, and engage in networking that works for you. Most of all, we’ll help you learn how to make networking fun and how to continue to do it after you’ve landed your next job.
SPECIALTY GROUP - 11:45AM- 1:30PM
In an effort to address members’ interest in networking with each other within the same specialty, our volunteers have formed the SJN Specialty Group Innovation Council. Many thanks to Meridith Sullivan and other SJN volunteers who are initiating this program. The groups are: · Accounting and Finance · Administrative Assistant and Support Personnel · Business - Executive (Director and Above) · Construction (Residential, Commercial and Industrial) · Education (K-12, College, Adult Learning and Administration/Management) · Financial (Internal, Banking, Investing and Management) · Healthcare (Clinical and non-clinical) · HR Human Resources (Generalist, Learning and Development, Senior, Benefits) · IT (Management, Project, etc) · Insurance (Sales and Management) · Manufacturing/Support (Engineering, Technical, Production, Support, Operations and Management) · Media and Communication (Print and Electronic) · Non-profit (Grassroots, Management, and Administration) · Real Estate (Residential and Commercial) · Recent College Graduates to age 30 · Retail (Sales, Management, Personnel) · Sales and Marketing (B2B and B to Customer) On Tues, Aug 4th, at the conclusion of SJN's morning program (approx 11:45 am), tables with identifying specialties will be set up at the back of the meeting room. Attendees can look for colleagues by specialty and have fun meeting, “talking shop" and SLOW NETWORKING until the afternoon session begins at 1:30 PM.
Heard of speed networking? That’s great when you want to meet 20 or 50 people, but you only get a few minutes with each one. Another approach, especially for introverts, is SLOWnetworking – go slow to go fast. Spend 20-30 minutes with someone and you’ll really get an appreciation for how they can help you in your job search, and how you can help them. Apply the techniques you’ve learned earlier in the day and expand your network. Our facilitators will guide you through a step-by-step process and you’ll leave with at least 4 new, high quality, strong network connections!
Parking Guidelines: As visitors attend SJN meetings at Temple Chai, we need to be aware that there is very limited parking on the temple grounds. It is recommended that SJN event attendees plan to park on the streets: Marilyn or Acoma. The spaces available at the temple are on the Marilyn Road side of the complex. Any ”reserved” spots need to be left available for staff. No parking spaces are available in the back of the complex. When entering from Marilyn Road, approach the property from the eastern most driveways at the “Temple Chai Entrance” sign, and then exit onto Acoma. Follow painted arrows for traffic flow direction. Keep the speed low and watch for pedestrians, including school children, crossing the parking lot. Thank you!
